Prototypes

Context
As part of building LiveXYZ’s one-of-a-kind mapping experience, prototypes and animations played a critical role in defining interaction patterns. Since there were no existing industry standards for this type of map-based experience, we had to pioneer new solutions that were both intuitive for users and practical for engineers to implement.
Design Challenge
  • Ensure interactions were clear and intuitive for users encountering a new kind of mapping experience.
  • Provide precise interaction guidelines to engineers for seamless implementation.
  • Explore multiple variants of the same functionality to validate the most effective approach.
  • Balance innovation with usability, given the lack of existing models to draw from.
Solution Overview
  • Created interactive prototypes to test and validate core flows before development.
  • Designed animations that illustrated transitions, gestures, and micro-interactions, making them understandable for both users and engineers.
  • Explored different functional variants through prototyping, narrowing down to the most intuitive interaction patterns.
  • Delivered specifications and animated references that reduced ambiguity for the development team.
  • Tested prototypes with users and internal teams to refine and optimize the interaction design.
Impact
  • Pioneered a new interaction model for map-based exploration, setting LiveXYZ apart from competitors.
  • Reduced development friction by providing clear visual specifications to engineers.
  • Improved usability and intuitiveness of the mapping experience through iterative testing.
  • Established a repeatable prototyping workflow that supported ongoing feature development.
