iOS App User Flows

Context
In 2018, LiveXYZ, a location-based discovery platform, was undergoing a full redesign of its iOS app. To ensure a scalable foundation for future growth, I was tasked with creating the complete app architecture and user flows before other designers and developers began execution. This groundwork became the reference point for wireframes, design decisions, and engineering implementation.
Design Challenge
  • Create a unified, end-to-end user flow for the entire app experience.
  • Ensure scalability so new features could be added without disrupting existing flows.
  • Align user stories, use cases, and technical documentation across design and development teams.
  • Balance user needs (clarity, simplicity, discovery) with business goals (engagement, retention, monetization).
Solution Overview
  • Designed the app’s core architecture, mapping every primary and secondary flow.
  • Produced detailed wireframes and documented use cases for each interaction.
  • Wrote user stories to align design and development teams on functional goals.
  • Conducted testing of flows to validate usability, reduce friction, and confirm scalability.
  • Delivered a complete user flow diagram that became the blueprint for the app build.
Impact
  • Established a strong, enduring foundation: the user flows have remained largely intact since 2018.
  • Enabled seamless integration of new features without conflicts or rework.
  • Provided cross-functional teams with clear documentation to accelerate design and development.
  • Improved usability and consistency, leading to a smoother experience for LiveXYZ’s users.
